Cross Pang picks up the formula of aiming and shooting projectiles to form groups and pop them, a mold that became enormously popular in Asian arcades after the success of Puzzle Bobble and the Pang variants. The mechanic rewards aim and quick reading of the board over pure reflexes. It's one of the many variants this subgenre generated during the 90s, when the bubble-matching format became almost as common in Asian arcades as Tetris itself.
