F/A —short for Fighter/Attacker— puts the player in the cockpit of a modern fighter jet for aerial combat missions, with a three-dimensional environment built on Namco's System 21 hardware, among the first to bring textured polygons to arcades. The original cabinet, with an enclosed cockpit and dedicated flight controls, sought an immersion uncommon for its time.
It's a key piece for understanding Namco's leap into three dimensions before the studio established itself as the reference for arcade 3D with series like Ridge Racer or Tekken a few years later.
