This arcade Ninja Gaiden, developed by UPL, shares its name and setting with Tecmo's series but offers a different experience: a side-scrolling beat 'em up in which a ninja fights waves of enemies with sword and martial arts, closer in spirit to Double Dragon than to the technical, punishing platformer that defined the series on consoles.
It's a frequent source of confusion for players expecting the rigor of the NES Ninja Gaiden and instead finding a fairly conventional beat 'em up; even so, it's a solid title within UPL's catalog, with the brisk combat pace typical of the genre in its golden age.
