Adventures of Tron started out as an offshoot of Tron: Maze-a-Tron, the Intellivision game, but ended up as its own title, published by Mattel under its M Network label for the Atari 2600. The player moves Tron around a four-level grid, collecting bits while dodging the Recognizers, Grid Bugs, and tanks that the Disney movie had made popular that same year.
When Mattel lost the film license, the cartridge was reissued under the generic name Adventures on GX-12, with the same sprites but no reference to Tron whatsoever. That reconversion — stripping off the license disguise and leaving the playable skeleton — is today one of Atari 2600 historians' favorite case studies.
