Dragonfire, published by Imagic in 1982, puts the player in front of a dragon's lair guarding jewels: you have to go in, dodge the creature's fire breath, and get out with the loot before running out of lives, in a very direct risk-reward formula. It's representative of the ingenuity with which Imagic tended to wrap simple mechanics in visually appealing premises for the time. Its escalating tension — each heist attempt riskier than the last — made it one of Imagic's best-rated titles in the Atari 2600 library, within a third-party catalog that was highly uneven in quality.
