Starpath designed the Supercharger, an add-on that loaded games from audio tape and gave the 2600 extra memory for experiences far more complex than a standard cartridge's, and "Dragonstomper" made the most of that leap to build an RPG world with inventory, turn-based combat, character dialogue, and a quest structure that had no equal in the console's standard catalog. Steve Landrum designed it aiming to bring the depth of computer RPGs to hardware never meant for that.
It's still cited as one of the great technical and design achievements of the 2600's expanded catalog, proof that with the right peripheral the console could deliver far more than Atari had imagined back in 1977.
