Joust brings Williams' 1982 arcade game to the 2600: two knights mounted on ostriches (or buzzards, depending on the player) face off in flight with intermittent button-flapping, trying to hit their rival while positioned higher to knock them down, while enemy buzzards complicate every fight. The flight physics, governed by momentum and gravity rather than direct control, are the original design's great hallmark, which the home version tries to preserve. It's one of the most beloved arcade conversions in Atari's catalog, published by the company itself, and it's still remembered for how distinctive its aerial control is, quite unlike any other game in the 2600's library.
