Spike's Peak, published by Xonox in 1983 for Atari 2600 and written by Lawrence Holland —who years later would create the X-Wing flight-simulator saga—, follows Spike on his climb up a mountain across five distinct screens: first the meadows, dodging bears and mudslides; then a rocky ledge with falling rocks and a boulder that crosses the screen from side to side; then the ice cap, navigating avalanches and the Abominable Snowman; and finally the summit, where the flag must be planted. It shipped as a "double-ender" cartridge alongside Ghost Manor, sharing the same physical cartridge with another complete game on the opposite end. It's one of the best examples of the single-goal-per-screen platformer format that defined much of Xonox's later catalog.
