deSPIRIA departs from the usual colorful formula of Japanese role-playing to build a dark-toned story with unconventional game systems, in a world that blends psychological horror elements with the structure of a traditional JRPG. It's one of those titles that operate at the margins of Dreamcast's role-playing catalog, without trying to resemble the genre's big names on that console.
It stayed exclusive to Japan and today circulates mainly among Japanese RPG fans willing to explore less conventional approaches with lower international coverage.
