Fushigi no Dungeon - Fuurai no Shiren 2 continues Chunsoft's Mystery Dungeon saga, one of the pillars of the Japanese roguelike genre: dungeons that change configuration on every attempt, an inventory that's completely lost if the character dies, and a turn-based exploration pace that demands patience and calculation over reflexes. It's the direct sequel to Fuurai no Shiren, the title that on Super Famicom had established the saga as the genre's reference in Japan.
It's a rarity within N64's catalog, a console almost entirely devoted to action and three dimensions, that nonetheless housed one of the most respected turn-based roguelikes of its generation. It never left Japan, consistent with how little this subgenre circulated outside its home market at the time.
