Developed and published by Konami in late 2006, it's the third Castlevania of the DS era, deepening the formula of non-linear exploration, skill upgrades, and a giant castle to traverse that the saga has been polishing since Symphony of the Night. Its particular contribution was the cooperative mode — a first for the series — and being the first portable Castlevania with English voice acting, along with setting the plot inside paintings that work as portals to standalone stages, each with its own visual identity.
It was well received by critics and is remembered today as one of the most solid Castlevania entries on DS, right in the saga's golden stretch between Dawn of Sorrow and Order of Ecclesia.
