Developed by Treasure -the studio behind Gunstar Heroes and Sin & Punishment- and directed by Yasushi Suzuki, Bangai-O Spirits (2008) revives the formula of the Nintendo 64 and Dreamcast entry: mechs that fire missiles in absurd quantities, whose power grows the closer they dodge enemy projectiles. The DS version adds a full level editor and the ability to share levels with other players.
It's one of the cult gems of the handheld's shooter catalog, celebrated for its ingenious level design and its generosity toward player creativity; today it's a regular reference point among those who value Treasure's work outside its better-known franchises.
