Programmed by Jun Wada and Makoto Horai and published by Broderbund, A.E. first arrived on the Apple II and 8-bit Atari computers in 1982, reaching MSX only in 1984. Its signature trick was having attacking creatures emerge from within science-fiction scenes, with subtle scaling that suggested volume at a time of flat or starfield backgrounds. It was one of the first collaborations between Broderbund and the Japanese studio Programmers-3, and today it survives as a technical curiosity more than a played classic.
