Final Fantasy for WonderSwan Color, released by SquareSoft in December 2000, takes the original 1987 Famicom game and rebuilds it with more detailed sprites, better sound, and a handful of gameplay tweaks, without ever becoming a full reinvention of the turn-based combat system or the four Warriors of Light's formation. It was part of a series of remakes Square brought to Bandai's handheld before the series finally settled on Sony consoles. For anyone approaching the series out of historical curiosity, it's a comfortable way to experience Final Fantasy's starting point without wrestling with the technical limitations and rough translation of the original Famicom cartridge.
