Anime Super Remix, The - Kyojin no Hoshi

Part of a collection of Japanese games that revived classic '60s and '70s anime series in a retro key, in this case Kyojin no Hoshi ('Star of the Giants'), the pioneering manga and anime of the dramatic-sports genre centered on baseball. It reproduces its melodramatic tone and impossible pitches with the simple aesthetic typical of the collection.

It's pure fanservice for a generation of Japanese who grew up with the original manga; outside that specific cultural context it's an almost unreadable piece for the rest of the world, which is why it never left Japan.
