Armored Core: Last Raven, developed by FromSoftware, closes out the Armored Core arc on PlayStation 2 with a return to the toughness that characterized the series since its beginnings: deep mecha customization, realistic weight physics, and a difficulty curve that doesn't forgive configuration mistakes. It's the culmination of years of iterating on the same formula.
It remains territory for specialists: anyone who invested time understanding the parts and balance system of earlier Armored Core games finds here the most refined version of that experience, while for a newcomer the barrier to entry is high.
