Castlevania: Lament of Innocence, developed by Konami Computer Entertainment Tokyo under Koji Igarashi's production, rewrites the origins of the Belmont clan through Leon, the saga's first vampire hunter, in the first fully three-dimensional Castlevania. It keeps the castle exploration and secondary-weapon collection that made Symphony of the Night famous, adapted to a more linear per-level design.
It divided the fanbase accustomed to the 2D "Metroidvania" format, but over time it was reclaimed as a worthy transition to 3D, with solid Gothic art direction and a Michiru Yamane soundtrack on par with the rest of the saga.
