Championship Manager 5 arrived at a hinge moment for the football management genre: Sports Interactive, the series' original creators, had already split from Eidos to develop what would become Football Manager, leaving the Championship Manager name in the hands of Beautiful Game Studios. This PS2 version adapted that squad, tactics, and transfer market management to a console controller.
For sports management fans it's a piece of that little-known publishing history, of two sagas born from the same trunk that ended up competing with each other for the same audience.
