Code of the Samurai offered a sword-based action adventure set in feudal Japan, part of a wave of samurai-themed titles seeking to capitalize on Western interest in bushido aesthetics following the success of films and series set in that era. Its circulation remained limited to the European market.
Like much of the era's niche games, it left no significant mark on critics or the console's collective memory, and today it appears almost exclusively in catalogs and collectors' lists.
