Deus Ex is one of the founding works of the immersive sim, directed by Warren Spector for Ion Storm and originally published on PC in 2000: a plot of global conspiracies, nanotechnology, and freedom of choice that combines shooting, stealth, and dialogue in doses the player defines. This European edition brought that complexity to the PS2 controller, with the interface adjustments that entailed.
Though critics acknowledged the merit of adapting such a dense game to console, the definitive Deus Ex experience remains tied to the original mouse and keyboard; this version is today a curiosity for anyone wanting to see how far the port of a PC classic went in the PS2 era.
