Army Men: Major Malfunction arrived in 2006, developed by British studio Team17 — best known for the Worms saga — and published by Global Star Software, part of the long series of action games starring the classic little green plastic soldiers. This entry moved away from the franchise's traditional war setting to bring the action to a twisted fairground and amusement park, with a darker tone than the saga's earlier entries. The third-person shooter failed to stand out among the abundant crop of shooters that year, and critics flagged it as just another entry in a franchise already showing signs of creative fatigue.
