Army Men: Sarge's War arrived in 2004 after a troubled development: it had been started by The 3DO Company, the saga's original creator, but the studio's 2003 bankruptcy left the project half-finished until Global Star Software rescued it and handed completion duties to Tactical Development. The result was a third-person shooter with a more adult, violent tone than the rest of the franchise, starring Sergeant Hawk on a revenge campaign after his platoon is wiped out. It also came out on PlayStation 2, GameCube and PC that same year. It's remembered as one of the best gameplay moments of a saga that kept a loyal fanbase throughout the PS2/Xbox era.
