Airwolf is a horizontally-scrolling shooter released in arcades in 1987 by Kyugo, borrowing the name and silhouette of the helicopter from the identically named TV series to put it under the player's control against armies of tanks, turrets, and enemy fighters across varied stages. The structure is genre-classic for the era: weapon power-ups, growing waves, and end-of-level bosses.
It's a competent but minor shooter within its category, memorable mostly for the license it evokes; for fans of the 80s show it carries a nostalgic value that outweighs its gameplay, which doesn't innovate much compared to its contemporaries.
