Bomb Jack has the player collecting bombs scattered across scenarios inspired by real monuments —pyramids, the Eiffel Tower, the Parthenon— while gliding with soft jumps and chaining detonation combos to multiply the score. Tehkan (later Tecmo) built here a single-screen platformer with simple rules and a very generous learning curve.
It's one of those classics that stand on their own: its straightforward gameplay made it suitable for all audiences at the time, and today it's still one of the most cited 80s platformers when talking about elegant design with minimal resources.
