Chequered Flag is a racing arcade game Sega released in 1988, set in the world of Formula 1 and built on the sprite-scaling technology the company had been polishing since Out Run, with sharp curves and a sense of speed as its distinctive trademark. It was part of the string of driving games with which Sega dominated late-80s arcades.
It remained in the shadow of Out Run and Power Drift within that same technical family, but it's still a solid representative of Sega's golden era of arcade racing, with that luminous aesthetic and that arcade sense of exaggerated speed that characterized the whole line.
