Crossbow (1987) is an Exidy shooting game in which the player doesn't directly control a character, but instead protects with their crossbow an explorer who advances alone through hostile scenarios —forests, caves, swamps— shooting at any threat that approaches him. The joystick-with-crosshair control (instead of a light gun) gave it its own identity within the on-rails shooting genre.
It's fondly remembered for its almost rescue-adventure atmosphere and for that constant tension of protecting someone you can't move yourself, an uncommon twist for its time.
