Demon's World combines platforming and side-scrolling shooting: two armed warriors travel through a realm infested with demons and medieval creatures, in a formula that Toaplan —better known for its vertical shooters— also brought to the realm of dark fantasy. It came out in July 1989, licensed to Taito for the Japanese market and distributed in the United States through Romstar. It's a less-cited title than Toaplan's great vertical shooters, but interesting as a demonstration of the studio's versatility before its dissolution in the early 90s, which gave rise to spin-offs like Cave and Gazelle.
