Atari used internal diagnostic cartridges to test the video output of its consoles before they reached final production, and "Color Bar Generator" is one of those examples: instead of a game, it displays a series of fixed color bars meant for adjusting the brightness, contrast, and tint of a period television. It was never meant for sale.
It survived through factory happenstance rather than any editorial decision, and today it circulates among collectors as a piece of hardware archaeology rather than as a playable experience.
