Double Dragon tried to bring Billy and Jimmy Lee's hand-to-hand combat to a console that was already nearly a decade old, with Activision betting on squeezing every last drop out of the 2600's installed base. The result, hamstrung by the joystick's single button and the limited hardware, was poor hit detection and a painfully short attack range, which earned it a very negative critical reception despite selling around 500,000 copies. In the final reckoning, it's a curious case: a technical achievement given the hardware, but one of the worst-received ports in the console's entire library in terms of playability, and an example of just how far Activision stretched out the 2600's commercial life cycle.
