In arcades, "Ikari Warriors" defined much of what would later become the top-down run-and-gun genre: two commandos advancing against waves of soldiers, tanks, and enemy bases, with a rotating joystick that let you aim independently of your movement direction. The Atari 2600 adaptation trims that ambition down to what 1977 hardware could offer nearly a decade after its release.
It's a rarity within the console's late catalog, proof that even mid-'80s arcade titles with bigger ambitions ended up, one way or another, finding their humblest version on the 2600.
