Conflict: Desert Storm is a third-person tactical shooter developed by the British studio Pivotal Games, set during the 1991 Gulf War. The player commands a four-soldier squad -two U.S. special forces and two British SAS- and can give individual orders to each one in real time, combining direct shooting with squad planning in missions inspired by real operations from that war.
It was the first title in a series Pivotal Games would sustain for much of the decade, and it laid the groundwork for the formula its sequels would repeat: a small squad, tactical orders, and settings based on contemporary conflicts. At the time it was compared to Ghost Recon for its emphasis on team coordination over individual action.
