1944: The Loop Master picks up the 19XX saga Capcom had opened years earlier, developed under license by studio Eighting at the start of the 2000s. It keeps the classic skeleton — fighter formations, stacking power-ups, full-screen bosses — and adds a "loop" system: each full playthrough raises the stakes and the score.
It arrived when board-level shoot 'em ups were already a niche genre, made for the cult player chasing the high score more than novelty. That's why it's valued today as a dignified farewell to Capcom's vertical-shooter style rather than a landmark in its own right.
