Aero Fighters 2 (known in Japan as Sonic Wings 2) is a vertical shooter from Video System released in 1994, a direct sequel to the first Aero Fighters. It keeps the dodge-and-shoot formula against enemy waves, but adds a roster of pilots from different nationalities with their own planes and personalities, a trait that became the saga's signature. It's one of the most beloved vertical shooters of the mid-90s: fast, generous with explosion spectacle, and with a humor all its own that sets it apart from more serious rivals like Psikyo's or Cave's. A good entry point to the genre for anyone not looking for the extreme difficulty of the bullet hells that followed.
