Alien Invaders belongs to the extensive family of clones and variants that flourished after Space Invaders' overwhelming success in the late 70s: rows of aliens advancing in a block, a ground cannon that moves along a single axis, and shelters that wear down with each shot.
Like so many titles from that period, it serves today mostly as a testament to how quickly Taito's formula was replicated and remixed once its commercial success was proven, rather than for contributing anything of its own to the genre.
