Alpine Ski is one of the arcade's earliest approaches to alpine skiing: the player controls a skier going down the slope, dodging flags and obstacles against the clock, with controls simple but effective for the time. Taito released it in 1981, right in the middle of the boom for skill-and-reflex games. It remains enjoyable for its immediacy: there's no learning curve or systems to explain, just the tension of going faster and faster without crashing.
