Ark Area is a vertically-scrolling shoot 'em up from the 90s Japanese arcade scene, with the tight-wave design and imposing screen-filling bosses that characterized much of that decade's board-level shooters. It circulated mostly in Asian arcades, without the mass distribution of Toaplan's or Cave's titles. It's one of those shooters known today mostly by genre collectors: it didn't change the rules of the game, but it competently delivers on the reflex-and-memorization promise the genre demanded at its peak.
