Armed Formation is a Japanese vertical shoot 'em up that closely follows the classic formula of ships in formation firing upward against enemy waves and full-screen bosses, a mold studios like Toaplan defined and dozens of smaller companies replicated during the early 90s.
It never had the impact of the genre's big names, but it's representative of that huge pool of Japanese board shooters that filled arcades before Cave's danmaku redefined the rules.
