Asuka & Asuka is a vertical shoot 'em up developed by UPL and published by Sunsoft in 1989, notable for having two school-age girls as protagonists who fight aboard warplanes, a deliberate contrast between the everyday and the martial typical of Japanese arcade imagery at the time. The gameplay follows the genre's standard mold: power-ups, full-screen bombs, and mechanical bosses closing out each stage.
It never reached the popularity of other vertical shooters of its generation, but it earned a place among collectors for its art direction and for being a representative rarity of the late-80s Japanese shmup.
