Blockade is a 1976 Gremlin Industries arcade in which two players control "snakes" that leave a solid trail behind them, trying to force their rival into crashing against a wall or their own trail. It is, along with a handful of titles from those same years, the direct origin of the concept later popularized by Snake and Tron's light cycles.
Its value today is fundamentally archaeological: a simple idea that laid the groundwork for an entire genre of tracing-and-collision games, and one that remains perfectly playable in its near-minimalist honesty.
