Breakers Revenge improves on nearly every aspect of the original 1996 Breakers: more characters, bigger and more detailed sprites, and a combat system that picks up ideas from Street Fighter Alpha and Darkstalkers —aerial combos, super moves with a chargeable gauge— but with its own visual identity, closer to the anime of the era. It was developed by Visco, a small studio within the Neo Geo ecosystem dominated by SNK and Capcom.
It's one of the best-regarded independent fighting games in the Neo Geo library, valued by genre fans as a solid alternative to the platform's heavyweights, although it never had the distribution or marketing of its SNK contemporaries.
