Buccaneers was developed by the firm Duintronic in 1989: the player takes on a sailor who fights his way through different settings —the coast, the castle, its dungeons— facing pirates until reaching the captain who holds his crewmates captive. It supports two simultaneous players, in line with the historically-themed beat 'em ups that abounded in the late eighties.
It's a minor title within the genre, without the technical ambition of Capcom or Konami in the same era, but it retains that direct appeal of end-of-decade arcade production: short screens, enemies raining in from every side, and a simple progression meant to eat up tokens.
