Cadash combines the structure of a side-scrolling beat 'em up with role-playing elements: characters level up, buy equipment at in-game shops, and use spells or special abilities depending on their chosen class, in a formula uncommon for 1989 arcades, closer to what was seen on home consoles. Up to four players can advance together through the same fantasy world.
It's a key piece for understanding how Japanese arcades tried to absorb the language of Western and Japanese role-playing without giving up the constant action pace an arcade hall demanded, and it's still fondly remembered by those who value Taito's rare genre hybrids.
