Centipede (1981) is the Atari classic in which the player, with a cannon that moves freely across the bottom of the screen using a trackball, shoots at a centipede winding its way down among mushrooms, while spiders, fleas, and scorpions complicate every wave.
It's one of the pillars of golden-age arcades, famous for its precise controls and its design co-created by Dona Bailey, one of the few female designers in the industry at that time. It's still played today for the near-perfect elegance of its single-screen loop.
