Cobra Command is an on-rails shooting game starring a helicopter pilot, developed by Data East in 1984 using laserdisc video technology, the same technical current that popularized Dragon's Lair. The player reacts to the on-screen action rather than freely controlling the aircraft, in a format very typical of the mid-80s. It's a key piece for understanding that brief period when arcades flirted with cinema-quality video as a substitute for hardware-generated graphics, before the technology proved too costly to sustain.
