Dangerous Seed is a vertical-scrolling alien-blaster published in Japan in 1989, with the accumulative power-up design and tight enemy waves that defined the genre at its most creatively effervescent moment. Its organic science-fiction setting, with biomechanical-looking enemies, gives it its own visual identity within the tide of shooters of the era. It's a title recognized today mostly by shmup specialists: it didn't change the genre's rules, but it's a solid example of its technical craftsmanship in a particularly fertile year for vertical shooting.
