Defence Command reproduces the formula of the original Williams Electronics Defender without too many changes: protecting humanoids on a planet's surface from an alien invasion, piloting a ship that moves freely in both directions across a continuously scrolling stage. It circulated as an unauthorized copy manufactured by the Outer Limits firm in 1981, during the same period Williams was litigating against other similar copies, such as Artic International's. It's one more testimony to the legal war that surrounded Defender at its peak of success: so popular that it spawned several almost simultaneous imitations, with varying degrees of sophistication in the disguise.
