Dirt Fox came out only in Japan in June 1989 on the Namco System 2 board, with dual Motorola 68000 processors to support an unusual proposal: up to eight players could link their cabinets to race together on top-down off-road tracks, each car identified by color. The circuit is divided into segments with their own time limit, which extends as they're completed.
It's an early example of Namco's bet on massive multiplayer in arcades, in line with what the company and Sega would explore with more ambition a few years later. Having never left Japan, it's a title little known outside System 2 hardware collector circles.
