Donkey King Jr. reproduces the climb-platforms-and-dodge-dangers formula that made Donkey Kong Jr. famous, with minor name and presentation tweaks typical of the unauthorized versions that circulated in markets where license enforcement was more lax.
It's a testament to a common practice in arcade's early years: reproducing other companies' hits under barely modified names, at a time when intellectual property protection in the medium was still in its infancy.
