This version is not an official Nintendo Donkey Kong, but a modification made by the ROM-hacking community over the code of the 1981 classic: Mario must still dodge barrels and climb platforms to rescue the damsel, but with much of the setting plunged into darkness, forcing players to memorize patterns rather than react to what's visible on screen. Like every fan modification, it has no verifiable official authorship; its value lies in offering an extra challenge for those who already know the original Donkey Kong by heart and want an additional twist.
