Explosive Breaker lets you choose among Jean, Nigel, Steel, Mai, Mifune, and Hanse, six pilots with their own ship designs and firing patterns, within the standard structure of the vertical shoot 'em up: waves of enemy ships, fixed cannons on the stage, and full-screen bosses dropping power-ups when defeated.
It's a representative title of early-90s Kaneko, a studio that, without being as cited as Toaplan or Cave, sustained a steady production of solid shooters throughout the decade, backed by a colorful visual identity and characters with somewhat more characterization than the genre average.
